McLaren Vale
At release, the wine has a crimson red colour with dark rose hue to the edge.
There is an enticing perfume of black cherry and raspberry along with hints of white pepper and underlying Christmas spice.
This is a juicy, medium-bodied wine with flavours of raspberry, white pepper and earthy spice. Lingering fine tannins provide a sensation almost akin to spicy dried ginger on the back palate. The finish is both graceful and delectable.
The wine was matured for 9 months in a combination of 1 and 2 year old French oak hogshead barrels prior to bottling.
The McLaren Vale wine region experienced a drier than average growing season for vintage 2020 for the third year in a row. The continuation of dry conditions contributed to generally low yields across the region. The summer of Vintage 2020 was a tale of two summers. The “first” summer, the month of December, was the hottest on record. The second summer was in February when conditions cooled with the arrival of rain. It was just enough summer rain to freshen up vineyards, without any unwanted side effects. Winemakers report good quality wine from the vintage with lower yields affording close attention to the wines in the cellar.
Crafted for immediate enjoyment but will cellar over a medium term under ideal conditions.
