At release the wine is a dark red colour with ruby red hues.
The wine has an enticing, lifted aroma of plum, blackcurrant and dark cherry fruits along with a bouquet of subtle mocha and a touch of oak derived spice.
The palate is plump & generous with ripe fruit characters of plum and blackberry. Mocha coffee and subtle spice from oak maturation balance the fruit flavours. The wine is medium to full-bodied with a fleshy mid-palate and supple tannin structure. It is a well balanced wine with great texture, good length and enjoyable fruit on the finish.
This wine can be enjoyed upon release but will reward careful cellaring up to and possibly beyond 2022.

Wine Reviews: Wakefield - Clare Valley
Deep purple color. A dark core of plum and blackberry fruit on the nose along with violets, loam and black pepper glaze. Silky and juicy presence on the palate with medium acidity and medium-soft tannins. Deep, dark black cherry and plum fruit but it maintains a tart edge. Notes of roasted chestnut, wet earth and pepper add some complexity. Fun, tasty stuff for near-term drinking. I like the more vibrant and less roasted appeal.

Wakefield Estate Shiraz 2015
Okay. The 2014 vintage of this wine won a ridonkulous amount of bling for the mantlepiece. Add more gold than if you drained Lake Titicaca before the Conquistadors got thereà.and Wakefield has a serious wine show weapon for not a large amount of cash. Does the 2015 also stack up? Delicous darker, savoury aromoas of just ignited woodfire, roasting chicken (with the skin on) all covered in thyme. ThereÆs cracked black pepper, soft jubey black raspberry and subtle vanilla slice from the American oak. Thoughtful dark blackberry and plum flavours beckon, before creamy/smooth/sweet oak wraps it up. Tannins are a little blocky signalling a medium term of cellaring could be possible, whilst juicy acids get the saliva moving drinking ready for any night of the week. Not sure it will reap the same rewards as the 2014, but still very good, especially for the price.

The Clare Valley Shiraz is richer and more distinctive; a full bodied, moderately rich, supple wine that is long on the palate, and quite lingering in the finish. In aroma/flavor, it tastes of loganberry, plum, pepper, cassis, and cedar. Aged 12 months in American oak barrels.

2015 Wakefield Estate Shiraz
A deep purple/crimson in the glass. Initial scents of menthol and eucalyptus lead to deeper aromas and flavors of blackberries, pectin, earth, fleshy black plum, black licorice, and a note of cocoa powder. Medium-full in body, with sweet, dusty tannins and a supple mouthfeel. This is a solid, everyday red, well-suited to lamb chops on the barbecue. A value vino.
