  • The Riesling Tasting
    Wakefield Estate Pinot Noir 2010

    Illawara Mercury, April 2011

    The Riesling Tasting
One of four new reds, including a shiraz, merlot and tempranillo, from the always reliable Wakefield Estate label. Crafted from Adelaide Hills fruit this is a nicely poised pinot with aromatic plum and cherry fruit flavours, a lick of spice, earthy characters, balanced oak and fine supple tannins. Drink with venison.

  • Wine Will Eat Itself
    Wakefield Estate Pinot Noir 2010

Jeremy Pringle, Wine Miles, April 2011

    Wine Will Eat Itself
These 2009 'Estate' reds from Wakefield are workman like 'punter' wines and at their often discounted price I'm fairly sure they'll find an audience. The Merlot lacks any real sense of excitement but it's generously flavoured and well made in its style. It's all about plum jam and drinking chocolate with red berry highlights. Tobacco and vanilla coffee oak come along for the ride. Sweet fruited and simple with a creamy mid-palate and grainy tannin. Not too big or heavy in the mouth either...which is pleasing to see.

  • Wakefield Estate Pinot Noir 201085 points

Harvey Steiman, Wine Spectator, June 2011

Bright and jazzy, balancing its red fruits against toasty, savoury notes, lingering on the tight finish. Best from 2012-2015.

  • Wakefield Estate Pinot Noir 201088/100

Glen Frederiksen, Winelines Online (USA), October 2011

Like the Yarra Valley, AustraliaÆs Adelaide Hills region is becoming renowned for its cool-climate Pinot Noir, along with Chablis-like Chardonnay and minerally/sharp Sauvignon Blanc. The nose of this wine is elevated by spice and mint, leading to ample fresh berry and ripe cherry fruit. Light on the palate, it finishes with some earthy grip. This is not a traditional Pinot flavor profile, but the wine is really fun to drink. Bring on the buffet and letÆs party!

  • Wakefield Estate Pinot Noir 201091/100

James Halliday, 1005 Wines Under $20, November 2011

The choice of the Adelaide Hills for a winery that has a strong South Australian profile was inevitable if it wished to make quality pinot noir. What is mildly surprising is the sub-$20 price tag for a pinot noir of this quality. It has good hue and depth, and the black cherry and plum fruit of the bouquet carry through to the complex and powerful palate, where earthy/foresty notes combine with tannins, a touch of stem and french oak. It should be a pleasure to drink over the next 5 years.
