  • Wakefield Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 201292

Beverage Testing Institute, Tastings.com, September 2013

Opaque with a ruby rim. Aromas of blackberry, black plum, dark earth, coffee, red bell pepper, cherry skin, dark chocolate, cloves and vanilla. Big, rich and robust flavors of chewy black cherries, cocoa vanilla and dark earth. Has a hint of vegetal sweet peppers, menthol, and tomato leaf. A touch boozy, but savory, well-balanced, and delicious. (tasted on Sep-16-2013)

    Who Weekly, January 2014

    Drink me!
You will have seen this. You probably will have bought this (It's one of the top-seIling Australian cab savs). And you probably will have liked it as it's a reliable wine that steps in capably as a middle-order batsman at dinners, barbecues and picnics. And it is often discounted, making it great value as an all rounder.

  • Off the vine
    Wakefield Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Winsor Dobbin, Sunday Examiner, January 2014

    Off the vine
A seductive and affordable cabernet from a reliable family-owned Clare Valley producer. Wakefield wines consistently offer good value and this is a step up from most reds in the same price bracket, offering dark blackcurrant inkiness along with sweet oak and balanced tannins. This is an easy-to-drink young wine that will also cellar well for five years or more. It would be great with a summer barbecue or a traditional roast lamb. Look out for this one on special, too.

    Wakefield Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 201285

David Lawrason, Wine Align - Ontario, March 2014

This multi-gold medal winner does shout out - but it's mostly wood with some dark current. A lot of wood actually - a sort of balsa wood cedary veneer that reminded me of lumber yard. It's quite full bodied, dense and delicious in its way, with some sourness and lots of dusty tannin. very good length. Tasted March 2014

Harvey Steiman, Wine Spectator, March 2014

Firm in texture and tangy on balance, with a sharp edge to the blackberry and spice flavors, persisting against crackling tannins. Best from 2015 through 2019. 500 cases imported. ûHS

Violets, lavender, stewed cherry, menthol and dark chocolate dramatically dominate the nose and palate of this intriguing Clare Valley Cabernet. Compelling with a lovely distinctive character. Although not particularly to my tastes, it is evidently engineered to please a wide audience and it will certainly do so. very good concentration for the price. Tasted March 2014

  • Wakefield Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Christine Austin, Yorkshire Post, November 2014

Named after the Wakefield River in Clare Valley, this brand goes by the name of Taylors in its homeland but has to change its name for export, apparently to avoid confusion with the eponymous port brand. Clare Valley is comparatively cool with a distinct breeze blowing through the hills in the afternoon, but the sun is intense and ripens Cabernet grapes to perfection while keeping some underlying freshness in the flavor. With deep cassis and cherry fruit with a touch of herbal notes and pepper, this is a wine to cope with meaty dishes, including a rich-tasting lasagne.

    Wakefield Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 201291

Joe Czerwinski, Wine Enthusiast Magazine, March 2015

    Buyer's Guide
This winery was originally developed as a Cabernet specialist, and the regular 2012 bottling is another fine success. Briery, herbal shadings frame blackberry fruit, while the finish features a mouthwatering combination of mocha, dark fruit and lingering tannins. Drink this medium-bodied Cabernet now through 2025.
