Cabernet Sauvignon 2009
| Region: | Clare Valley |
Rich expressive flavours of cassis, mulberry and a hint of eucalypt. French oak maturation adds touches of dark chocolate, cedar and spice.
At release, the wine is a deep red with a vibrant purple hue.
Wine Bouquet
The wine has an aroma of rich blackcurrant, subtle star anise spice and a touch of eucalypt. French oak maturation is also evident with subtle aromas of tobacco leaf, cedar and chocolate.
Wine Palate
This is a wine of great intensity. It has distinctive blackcurrant and cassis fruit flavours. Subtle oak characters of cedar cigar box and spice are also evident. The tannins are fine and elegant – a hallmark of the varietal. The palate is well balanced, complex and fulfilling and lingers on the finish.

Wakefield Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2009Glen Frederiksen, Winelines Online (USA), October 2011
Subtle notes of eucalyptus intermingle with rich currant fruit and black olive. Warm and velvety in the mouth, the wine finishes with supple, chocolate-kissed tannins. ItÆs ready to drink now and over the next five years.
Wakefield Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2009Patrick Haddock, Good Taste, October 2011
Wakefield Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, is a top match for lamb shanks - the tannins cut through the fatiness of the meat.
Wakefield Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2009Australian Wine Annual, November 2011
An honest, if slightly baked and earlier - maturing cabernet with some fresh cassis, dark plum and rasberry fruit given lightly smoky cedar/vanilla oak influences and underpinned by firmish, drying tannins. Forward and juicy, it marginally dries out and becomes more hollow towards the finish.
Wakefield Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2009Duncan Powell, Masterchef Magazine, November 2011
Wakefield Cabernet Sauvignon, Some prefer the shiraz, but the Wakefield cabernet generally has a bit more character. Rich, ripe and sumptuous, with aromas that hint at blackcurrant, it can handle a wide range of red meat dishes.
Wakefield Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2009Wine Companion 2011, January 2012
Medium red-purple: the expressive blackcurrant/cassis bouquet introduces a medium-bodied wine with distinct elegance, fruit and oak playing off each other to good effect, the result an accessible and enjoyable cabernet for drinking soon.
Wakefield Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2009Harvey Steiman, Wine Spectator (on-line), January 2012
Firm, with chewy tannins around a modest core of currant and blueberry fruit, meshing together smoothly on the fine-grained finish. Best from 2013 through 2017. Very Good: A Wine With Special Qualities.
