This Saturday the world celebrates Earth Hour when we all get to turn the lights out in the name of global warming. What better way to celebrate than with a bottle of the world's first carbon neutral wine, an achievement that earned Wakefield global acclaim. This chardonnay, one of four varieties under the Eighty Acres label, is soft and creamy with stonefruit and tropical flavours, nicely balanced acidity and a clean finish.

Down in South Australia's Clare Valley ,Wakefield Wines are chuffed about winning a gold medal at the Chardonnay du Monde wine competition in France last month. And more so that it came from their Eighty Acres range, which is carbon neutral from cradle to grave, and at a bargain price.

  • Eighty Acres Chardonnay 2010

    MX Sydney, May 2011

Deliciously drinkable, affordable enough to crack open on a Tuesday night, carbon neutral and a winner of a gold medal last month at a swanky wine awards in Burgundy, France (and those Burgundians know a thing or two about chardonnay). Talk about ticking all the boxes. The ever so slightly tropical notes will no doubt mellow with sometime in the bottle

  • Eighty Acres Chardonnay 2010

    West Australian, May 2011

This is part of Taylor's carbon neutral range of wines. It's an excellent value-for-money, current-drinking chardonnay with dominant tropical flavours and just a little creamy oak. The citrus tang adds life to the medium-weight palate.

    Eighty Acres Chardonnay 2010

Ross Noble, Mount Barker Courier, May 2011

    Wine smiles for Mothers' Day
Wakefield Wines at Auburn at the entrance to the Clare Valley trumped the best of Australian chardonnays at the Chateau du Monde International Competition. The Wakefield Eighty Acres Chardonnay 2010 was one of only 53 chardonnays to wine gold against 914 entries from countries from around the world in the variety's heartland, Burgundy. Wakefield' Eighty Acres range is 100% carbon neutral and was selected by Australia's Ambassador for Climate Change for a function in Copenhagen and was awarded Best Green Launch by Drinks magazine, and also picked up awards for sustainability and environmental management. It's the peaches and cream style and a delight to drink. 'And it doesn't cost the earth' says Mitchell Taylor

Wakefield Eighty Acres Clare Valley Chardonnay 2010. Carbon neutral and it's won a gold medal, too. However half the population won't drink it because they are inconsiderate twits.

This has a light, bright green-straw colour, with yellow peach and tropical fruit tightened by some acidity. You can't expect more from the Clare Valley. Don't wait.
